Some people will say that Skyscraper is a rather odd piece of software, but others may find it quite useful. Powered by the Scalable Building Simulator engine, it simulates buildings in 3D. The software makes use of other engines as well, for collision detection, sounds and more. It can be quite useful for architects, as it comes with many example buildings and it lets you create your own.

Installing Skyscraper is a quick and simple process. Its setup file is relatively small and the installation process can be completed in less than a minute. The software is compatible with all popular Windows versions and it doesn't require any special tools or services. Also, you don't need to sacrifice too much memory or processing power to run it.

Skyscraper comes with a main user interface, as well as two secondary ones. The main one is where buildings are rendered and where you can explore them, while the other two display a console and a control panel, where you can find a wide range of useful options. When you start the program, you will be able to choose a building from a main menu. It takes a few seconds to load the building, after which you will be able to explore it in a 3D environment.

You can move forward and backwards and rotate left and right. Furthermore, you can use the mouse cursor to interact with buttons or doors. For the moment, the software lets you walk around in the loaded building, call elevators and ride them to different floors. Alternatively, you can just take the stairs, if you don't mind walking up a hundred stories or so.

Skyscraper's control panel includes a wide array of useful tools. For example, you can find an object manage, where you will find information about each rendered component of the building. You can also use it to create your own items. Furthermore, the control panel provides you with options for controlling the sky and the background, editing elevators and much more.

Simulating highrise architecture and elevators can be done in a comfortable manner, thanks to Skyscraper's straightforward design.

Pros

You can walk around in the rendered buildings without any restrictions. The software simulates elevators quite well. Also, Skyscraper comes with a wide range of useful controls.

Cons

At the time of writing, Skyscraper is still in Alpha, so there is not much to look at.
